Grant Gillon, currently a member of the Kaipatiki Local Board and Birkenhead Licensing Trust, works for you. Grant's experience and skills as a North Shore City Councillor (2007-2010), former Director of a State Owned Enterprise, CEO, local businessman, and a former two-term Member of Parliament (1996-2002), gives him a deep understanding of our local communities and how to effectively represent them. Grant is standing for the Auckland Council, re-election to the Kaipatiki Local Board, and to the Devonport/Takapuna Local Board. Grant Gillon took a strong leadership role on the North Shore City council. Amongst many achievements, As Chair of the Strategy & Finance Committee, Grant slashed the previous council's planned 8.4% rates rise, championed opposition to water privatisation, secured the future for our community groups in the transition period, opposed 'shoe-box' apartments in our neighbourhoods, initiated increased powers to community boards, and introduced several heritage protection measures, secured the civic square at Beach Haven, refurbishment of Highbury mainstreet and the Glenfield town centre scoping plan.
