Beach Haven Upgrades

Hopfully, Beach Haven residents will notice a few changes to brighten their winter's day. A gradual enhancement of the shopping centre is taking place. I am pleased that we have been able to secure some extra (and formerly unbudgeted) funding this coming year for the Beach Haven shopping centre improvements. Although the funding is only about $50 000, several small but significant projects are being completed. These plans include replanting of the flower beds in the centre including those on the footpaths, and roundabout and traffic islands. We should also be able to provide some improvements to make it easier to cross Beach Haven Road. Already there has been some general tree trimming and kerb painting, rubbish bin replacement, seating repainting, and replacing the broken pavers and a drain near the pedestrian crossing.
The Council is consulting local businesses and landowners and hopefully the views of the Beach Haven Birkdale Residents Association and other groups can be incorporated into the final project.

Like many of you, I am looking forward to the upgrade of the Beach Haven wharf, along with the covered pontoon, to support the ferry service. The Auckland Regional Transport Authority funding now seems more certain than a few months ago. Council plans for more parking and a more effective bus linkage to the wharf are still budgeted over the next two years. So, I have my fingers crossed for early good news on the ferry funding and this long-awaited service can start for Beach Haven.
